Broccoli Trouble At Dinner
SamOne day, four little girls named Holly, Aubrey, Brindley, and Zali were all sitting at the dinner table. Now, they were meant to be eating their dinner, but there seemed to be a problem. I don't want to eat my broccoli, said Brindley. Well, you need to eat the broccoli, said Aubrey. It's good for you. I don't need it to be good for me. I need it to be tasty for me, said Brindley. Um, well, that's not how it always works, said Holly. Uh I think it is how it should always work. Just then, who was that? said Holly. A piece of broccoli had flown across the table and landed on Holly's plate. She looked up. And there was Zali, with a very cheeky grin on her face. Zali, said Holly, did you throw broccoli across the table? Ah, me not try broccoli, said Zali. She smiled even bigger. You are being cheeky, Zali laughed. As the girls were talking and trying to eat their food, and Brindley was still not eating her broccoli, they could hear a noise outside. What is that? said Aubrey. Uh I don't know, said Holly. Let's let's go look. So, they got up from the dinner table, after asking their mum, of course, and went outside to go see what was going on. And in the backyard was something very strange. Well, hi guys, said a voice. Who are you? said Holly. My name is Dilbert Octavius Gregorius III. But people generally just call me by my initials D.O.G. Dog, said Aubrey. Yep, that's me. But you're a donkey, said Brindley. I am a donkey, so? But you're calling yourself Dog. That's my name. A donkey called Dog, said Holly. Yep, that's me. The girls were very confused, but even more confusing was why this donkey was in their backyard. Um excuse me, Dog the Donkey, what are you doing in our backyard? Well, I was a bit hungry, and there's one thing that I like to eat better than anything else. Is it broccoli? said Brindley. Oh no, not broccoli. What what is it? said Holly. Well, the thing that I like to eat best of anything is actually He stopped. And then he looked at the girls, and then he started to talk again. Hi, I'm Dilbert Octavius Gregorius. But you can call me by my initials. We we know, said Holly. Oh, have we met before? You were just talking to us, said Aubrey. Uh oh, this donkey has a funny memory, said Brindley. Oh yeah, I do. Hey, do you know what I'm doing here? Well, you said that you were coming to eat something that you really, really liked. D'y know what it was? Oh, I really like broccoli. What? said Holly. You just said you didn't like broccoli. Oh, I get confused sometimes. Um He stopped again. Uh oh, said Holly. Here we go again. Oh, hi guys! Let me guess, your name's Dog, said Holly. Oh, how did you know? Are we friends? Um we can be, said Holly, but it's getting a bit confusing because you keep forgetting things. Oh yeah, I've got a bit of a problem sometimes. What is it? said Aubrey, and talk fast before you forget. Oh okay. Um my problem is that if I don't eat No, he stopped again, said Brindley. Hey donkey doggy, uh you gotta eat something for your brain to work, I think. Oh yeah, how did you know that? Are we friends? Ha! Um, no, just keep talking fast. Oh yeah, okay. Um, well I need to eat a very special flour that helps me keep my memory, or else I'll keep forgetting what I'm doing. Well, what's the flour like, said Holly. Oh no, he stopped again. Hey donkey doggy, what's the flour you gotta eat for your brand of work, said Brindley? Oh, do we know each other? Yes. Your name's Dilbert Octavius Gregorius, but we can call you dog. What is the flower that we need to find for you to eat? Oh, flower? Why do we need a flower? Well, said Holly. Oh yeah, I remember. Uh we need to find the pink flower with purple dots and sparkles on it. I've never seen one of them, said Holly. Me either, said Aubrey. Uh, I've only seen twenty five of them, said Bryn. What? said Holly. Where? I see the sparkle flower too, said Zali. Where did you two see sparkle flowers? We're not telling, said Brinley. Why are you not telling? said Aubrey. Well, it's in our secret garden. Secret garden, said Holly. Oh, hello, said Dog. Um, who are you? I'm Holly, this is Aubrey, uh I'm Brinley, and this is Zali. Zali waved. Oh, what are you guys doing here? We're gonna help you find the special flowers to help get your memory back, said Holly. Oh, that's lovely. Um, do you know what they look like? Cause I can't remember. Don't worry, we'll find them. Just come with us. Um, can I ride the donkey, Sir Bryn? I ride donkey too, said Zali. Alright, said Holly. You two jump on Dog the Donkey, and we'll go look for these flowers, but you've got to tell us where your secret garden is. No, said Brinley. Zali, should we tell them? Mmm no, said Zali. What? said Holly. Just kidding, said Zali. Okay, we'll take you to the secret garden, said Brynn. Come on, Dog the Donkey. Hey, how did you know my name? Haha! No, this could be a long journey, said Aubrey. So, the girls and Dog the Donkey started to set off on a very short adventure. Because as they rode out the back of the garden path, then Brindley told them to turn left, then right, then left, then right, then right, then right, then left, then right, and then Brindley, where are you taking us? Uh nowhere yet. I'm just having a lot of fun. Have you ever ridden on a donkey before? It's awesome. Oh, Brindley, said Holly. Okay, I'll take you to the garden now. We riding donkey, said Zali. Yes, said Aubrey, you are riding the donkey, but can you take us to the secret garden? Oh, secret garden? That sounds like fun. Why are we going there? Hey! Uh, we're going there because we're gonna plant your feet in the ground and see what grows out your ears. What? said Dog the Donkey. That is not what we are doing, Brynley, said Holly. Yeah, I know, but it would be funny. I wonder if you would grow things out your ears. I wonder if I stood in dirt if I grew things out my ears. We're not going to try that, said Aubrey. No, okay. Well the secret garden's this way, said Bryn. As she rode towards a bunch of bushes, Holly started to notice that one section of the bushes looked a little bit different. I think I can see the entry, said Holly. Um, no, it's not that one, said Bryn. It is that one, isn't it? said Aubrey. Okay, it is. Alright, come on, said Bryn. So, the girls went over to the section of the garden with different coloured plants. And when they got there, oh, this looks tasty. What's this? said Dog the Donkey. And he started to eat the plants. Hey, that's our door, don't eat that one. Oh, what where did you come from? said Dog. I've been riding you for ages. My name's Brinley, your dog, and we're going to find you some special flowers. I don't like flowers. Ah, you said you need to eat the flowers for your brain to work. Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Ha ha, that's pretty funny. Maybe it's been a little while since I've had one of those. Hey, who are you? Oh, said Brindley. Let's kick going. Yes, said Holly. Come on, let's go. So they pushed aside the different coloured plants. And as they did, they walked through some kind of strange garden tunnel. It was made with bushes and shrubs on either side. It got a little bit dark in the middle. Where are we? What are we doing? It's dark in here. Hey, who are you? My name's We know, called out the girls. Your name's Dog. Oh, are we friends? We will be once we get you the special flowers to get your memory back, said Holly. Yeah, said Aubrey. Hopefully we can find them soon. Um, well we're almost there, but you gotta watch out, said Bryn. Watch out for what? said Holly. Ow! said Holly, as a branch hit her right in the stomach. Where did that come from? We did the booby traps, said Zali. Booby traps, said Aubrey. Why did you do that? Well, we were trying to make sure that nobody'd come in unless we told them they could, said Bryn. Well, that's not very kind, said Holly. Well, we were gonna tell you eventually, but it was fun to make all the traps. It was really cool, wasn't it, Zali? I did the next one. The next one, said Aubrey. Ow! she said, as a branch hit her right in the stomach. Zali! Um, now, Zali and Bryn, did you make any more of these booby traps? Um I'm gonna plead the dog. What? said Holly. I can't remember, said Bryn. I don't remember that either, said Zali. Oh dear. Oh, this is a fun little tunnel. Hey, who are you guys? Oh, we're Holly, Aubrey, Brinley, and Zali. Watch out for booby traps, said Zali. Booby traps, said Dog. Hey, that tickled. The girls laughed, as the last branch was quite small. They could see the end of the tunnel, and on the other side, they walked through. When they got there, there was a giant field of colourful and sparkly flowers. This is incredible, said Holly. How come you didn't tell us about this earlier? said Aubrey. Well, said Bryn, we actually only found it just before dinner time. We were gonna tell you straight after dinner. Yeah, gonna tell, said Zali. Oh, okay, girls. Well, we need to find the special flowers for dog. Hey, my name is We know, said the girls. I guess we've met before, haven't we? Oh dear, said Aubrey. As they walked in, they started looking for the right flower. Um what colour was it meant to be again? said Holly. I can't remember, said Aubrey. Me either, said Brindley. I don't remember, said Zali. I do, said Dog. What? said the girls. You haven't been able to remember anything all day. How come you can remember now? Um it comes and goes. I need a pink flower with purple dots that sparkles. Okay, said the girls. Let's go. So they all ran off through the field, trying to find the right ones. I got a green one over here, said Holly. Mine's yellow, said Aubrey. I got a purple one with pink spots. Um, not that one. I don't I got I got this one, said Zali, as she held one up. The girls looked. Zali, that's that's the right flower. Okay, said Zali. And she ate it. Zali, no, said Holly. You weren't meant to eat it. Dog was meant to eat it. What was I meant to eat? Oh dear. Don't worry, I found another one, said Brindley. She picked it up and brought it over towards Dog. Zali took it out of her hands just before she gave it to him. Mm, tasty, she said. Sali, called the girls. Don't worry, said Sali. I got another one, she said, as she pulled another one out from behind her. This time, before she could pop it in her mouth, Dog the Donkey saw the flower. Oh, that looks yummy. Can I have a bite? Uh oh, he said. Why, uh oh, said Holly. I've been forgetting things again, haven't I? You have, said the girls. Oh, I'm so sorry. I always forget things if I hadn't had one of these flowers in a while. Hey, I can remember everything now. You girls have been incredibly helpful. Thank you so much. Um, you're welcome, said the girls. But there's something else I remember. What's that? They said. You have to go back and eat your broccoli, he said to Brindley. Uh oh. How'd you know that? You weren't even inside. Well, I was listening, said Dog. No. And so the girls laughed. Don't worry, I'll take you back as quick as we can. Hey, is there any more booby traps? he said. Uh I don't remember, said Zali. Yes you do, said Dog. Haha, no booby traps, she said. Great. Alright, everybody, hop on. So all the girls hopped on the back of Dog the Donkey, and he rode quickly through the flowers, which was actually a lot of fun, because as you ran past the sparkly flowers, the sparkles actually also went into the air. In no time at all, they were back at their house. Okay, thanks very much for playing with me. I'm uh I'm gonna go try and get some of those flowers so that I don't need to remember where they are next time. It was nice to meet you. I'll I'll see you next time, said Dog. We'll see you soon, said the girls. As they all walked back inside, they sat down at the table, and Brinley picked up her last piece of broccoli and popped it in her mouth. She said as she swallowed. Just then their mum came back into the room. Brinley, where did all your broccoli go? she said. Well, said Bryn, I don't think you believe me, even if I told you. And that is the end of the story. This episode is brought to you by me, Dog the Donkey. The what am I doing? I was meant to be advertising. Oh forgotten. Haha. Oh well. We hope you've been enjoying silly stories for kids.
