Sam:

One day, a little boy named Connor was sitting at home. Now, he really liked playing all kinds of creative games. He liked pretending to be a cowboy sometimes. He liked pretending to be an astronaut. It was so much fun. And today, he was playing farmer. He was pretending that different ones of his teddy bears and all kinds of things were different animals. As he was playing, he noticed a different animal. But this one wasn't in his bedroom, it was actually outside his bedroom, looking in through the window.

Connor:

Um, hello,

Sam:

he said.

Panda Pete:

Hi!

Sam:

said the Panda at his window.

Connor:

Um, who are you?

Sam:

said Connor.

Panda Pete:

I'm Panda Pete. What are you playing?

Connor:

Um, well,

Sam:

said Connor,

Connor:

I'm playing farmer. I'm- I'm pretending that I'm a farmer and that all these teddies are animals.

Panda Pete:

Sounds perfect!

Connor:

P-perfect for what?

Sam:

said Connor.

Panda Pete:

For this,

Sam:

said Panda Pete. He held up some kind of strange board with a clacky bit on the top.

Connor:

What is that?

Sam:

said Connor.

Panda Pete:

You know, in the movies they hold it up and they say action and then they click it down.

Connor:

But what's it doing in here and why is my game perfect for this?

Panda Pete:

Come on, I'll show you!

Sam:

said Panda Pete, as he climbed in through the window. When he got in, he held up the board.

Panda Pete:

Okay, are you ready?

Connor:

Ready for what?

Sam:

said Connor.

Panda Pete:

Well, take your position.

Connor:

Um, o-okay.

Panda Pete:

Yes, you definitely look like a farmer. Okay, ready, three, two, one, action!

Sam:

he said, and he clicked the board together. Click! All of a sudden, the animals started to come to life and started to move around Connor's room.

Connor:

Whoa!

Sam:

said Connor. He looked.

Connor:

I-I look like a real farmer.

Panda Pete:

Yes, you are a real farmer,

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Panda Pete:

And look at the ground!

Sam:

He looked at the floor of his bedroom.

Connor:

There's, like, grass and stuff here!

Sam:

The animals started moving around the room. It was so fun. Connor started guiding them to different areas.

Connor:

Uh, a-alright, y-you come over here and I'll- I, oh, I need a pen.

Sam:

As he looked around his room, he realised there were actually animal pens now. And his room was so much bigger than it used to be.

Connor:

This is incredible, Panda Pete. How- how did you do this?

Panda Pete:

Well, it's the action board. When you click the action board, things come to life!

Connor:

Wow,

Sam:

said Connor.

Connor:

This is incredible!

Panda Pete:

Alright, let's round up all these animals into their pens and then maybe we can do a different game.

Sam:

So Panda Pete and Connor worked very, very hard. They got all the animals into the right pens. They separated them into the sheep and the goats and the horses and the cows and all of the things. There was even a sheepdog that helped them by running around barking as the animals were going in the wrong direction. After not too long at all, they had rounded up all the animals.

Panda Pete:

And, cut!

Sam:

said Panda Pete, as he clacked the board shut once again.

Connor:

That was so much fun.

Sam:

Connor looked around his room, and everything was back to normal.

Connor:

Panda Pete, this is- this is amazing!

Panda Pete:

I know. It's one of my favourite new toys. Okay, we need to do something else. Ah, what could we do? What could we do? Ah, hey, how about, how about, how about, how about we be explorers on a boat?

Connor:

Um, okay,

Sam:

said Connor.

Connor:

How will we set that up?

Panda Pete:

Well, we need to find something that looks like a boat, first of all.

Sam:

He looked around Connor's bedroom, and they found a few blankets that they shaped into the shape of a boat, and then they stood in the middle. Connor held up something straight in the middle to make it look like there was a mast.

Panda Pete:

Okay, and action!

Sam:

Click! And when Panda Pete clacked it shut this time, the mast shot up. The boat got bigger.

Connor:

Whoa!

Sam:

said Connor, as the room started to rock from side to side.

Panda Pete:

It's amazing! Look at the ocean!

Sam:

Panda Pete and Connor looked over the sides of their new giant boat. It was amazing.

Connor:

Whoa! I've got a pirate hat on. Uh-oh. Are we pirates?

Panda Pete:

I thought we were meant to be explorers. Um, we must have set it up a little bit wrong,

Sam:

said Panda Pete. As they were talking, a pirate came over to them.

Panda Pete:

Uh-oh,

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Pirate:

Arrr! Captain Connor, what be your orders?

Connor:

Captain Connor?

Sam:

thought Connor.

Panda Pete:

Yes, Captain Connor,

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Panda Pete:

What be your orders?

Sam:

He saluted as he stood.

Connor:

Um, maybe we should...

Sam:

Connor was looking around.

Pirate:

Are you okay, Captain Connor? You seem to be a little bit confused,

Sam:

said the pirate.

Connor:

Um, well...

Pirate:

You're not an imposter, are you?

Sam:

said the pirate.

Connor:

Um!

Sam:

As Connor was thinking, he realised what he had to do.

Connor:

I need to- I need to pretend and I need to pretend the best that I can.

Sam:

Connor took a deep breath and then turned to the pirate.

Connor:

I be no imposter!

Sam:

he said.

Pirate:

Oh, ha, yes, s-sorry, Captain.

Connor:

Yes, and for that, I think you may need to walk the plank.

Pirate:

Oh, no, sir, no, no, I'm- I'm st- I'm terribly sorry,

Sam:

said the pirate.

Connor:

Ah, yes, you best be. Well, we best raise all the sails and go to full speed in... that direction!

Sam:

yelled Connor, in his most piratey voice he possibly could.

Panda Pete:

Wow! Captain Connor, you're amazing!

Connor:

And I will be taking the helm,

Sam:

he said. He walked confidently across the pirate ship as it swayed from side to side until he got to the helm. He took control.

Connor:

I've never h-had control of a pirate ship before,

Sam:

said Connor very quietly to Panda Pete.

Panda Pete:

Don't worry, you can do it,

Sam:

said Panda Pete. And with that, Connor started to control the ship. The men started to cheer as the winds picked up and the ship moved faster and faster. As it began to sail, the men began to sing a sea shanty. It was so much fun. Connor and Panda Pete joined in as they learnt the words. They were having so much fun. Until they saw another pirate ship coming straight towards them.

Connor:

Uh-oh,

Sam:

said Connor. Boom! One of the cannons blasted on the other ship and just missed them.

Connor:

Um, Panda Pete, what do we do?

Panda Pete:

Um, um...

Connor:

Actually, I've got an idea,

Sam:

said Connor. One of the pirates came over.

Pirate:

Captain Connor, what be your orders?

Sam:

Connor grabbed the clacky board off Panda Pete, held it up, and said,

Connor:

And, cut!

Sam:

And with that, it returned back to Connor's bedroom.

Panda Pete:

Wow! That was a close one,

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Connor:

It was,

Sam:

said Connor.

Connor:

We better be careful how we set things up next time. That could have got very dangerous.

Panda Pete:

Very, very dangerous,

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Panda Pete:

But also, very, very fun! Uh, what are we gonna do next? We definitely need to do something else. Maybe something a little bit... I don't know. Maybe, do you have any ideas?

Connor:

Well,

Sam:

said Connor,

Connor:

maybe we could pretend to be chefs in a fancy restaurant?

Panda Pete:

Oh, that would be fun. Let's do it!

Sam:

So, they got some tables and set them up, and then they got some pretend food and put it on the bench, and then they took their positions.

Panda Pete:

Are you ready?

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Connor:

Um, I think so,

Sam:

said Connor.

Panda Pete:

And... action!

Sam:

yelled Panda Pete as he clacked the board closed. The kitchen came to life. There were people bustling to and fro. Panda Pete and Connor looked at the food in front of them.

Panda Pete:

Okay, we better get to work,

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Connor:

Um, what does it look like we're making?

Sam:

Just then one of the waiters rushed in.

Waiter:

Um, Monsieur Connor, are you sure that you are ready to do this?

Connor:

Um, ready to do what?

Sam:

said Connor.

Waiter:

Ready to invent a brand-new dish for the king.

Connor:

Um, maybe,

Sam:

said Connor.

Panda Pete:

Definitely,

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Panda Pete:

We can do anything, and we are ready because we are the best chefs in the whole entire world.

Connor:

Oh yeah, we gotta pretend,

Sam:

said Connor.

Connor:

Um, yes, we are definitely ready. Tell the king that his meal will be there shortly.

Waiter:

Oh yes, I will go tell him, okay, thank you. Well done, Mr. Connor. We are so proud of you. You are the most amazing chef in the whole entire world, and the king does not think so, but I'm sure after this meal that he will be completely convinced.

Connor:

What?

Sam:

said Connor.

Connor:

He doesn't think so?

Waiter:

No, don't you remember?

Sam:

said the waiter.

Waiter:

He has come because he thinks that you are actually a terrible cook and he is convinced that your food will be disgusting. That is why you agreed to make him a brand-new dish that no one has ever tasted before, to prove that you are the best chef in the whole entire world. He has been telling everybody at the table how terrible you are.

Connor:

What?

Sam:

said Connor.

Connor:

That's not very kind.

Waiter:

Well, this is your imagination.

Connor:

What?

Sam:

said Connor?

Panda Pete:

Never mind,

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Panda Pete:

Let's go!

Sam:

So, Panda Pete and Connor started looking at all the food in front of them.

Panda Pete:

We need to invent something new. You can do it, Connor!

Connor:

Uh, o-okay,

Sam:

said Connor. He looked at the food.

Connor:

I've got an idea.

Sam:

So they started to work. They worked very, very hard. They chopped, they diced, they mixed, they added all kinds of strange spices. Then they got the food and started shaping it into different shapes. And then they started adding extra things to it. Then Connor yelled,

Connor:

Right, everybody out of my kitchen!

Sam:

he said. All the other people in the kitchen started to walk out.

Panda Pete:

What are you doing?

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Connor:

Uh, I've got an idea, but I'm not sure if it'll work, so I thought if I get everyone out, it'll be easier for us to try it together.

Panda Pete:

Oh, okay,

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Panda Pete:

What's your idea?

Connor:

Well, see how the food kind of looks like clouds now?

Sam:

Panda Pete looked, and the way that they had chopped and shaped all the food, it did. It looked like colourful clouds.

Panda Pete:

Oh, yeah, it does.

Connor:

Well, I thought,

Sam:

said Connor,

Connor:

imagine if we could make it fly.

Panda Pete:

Fly?

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Panda Pete:

That's- that's a great idea, but how are we going to do it?

Connor:

Um,

Sam:

Connor thought,

Connor:

maybe, hoh, we could fill it with helium gas.

Panda Pete:

That is a great idea. Let's do it! But where will we get it?

Connor:

Um, well, this is our imagination, so I guess we can imagine it in.

Panda Pete:

Maybe there's some in this cupboard,

Sam:

said Panda Pete. As he opened the cupboard, sure enough, there was a bottle of helium gas.

Panda Pete:

Hooray!

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Connor:

Hooray!

Sam:

said Connor.

Connor:

Let's do it!

Sam:

So, they got the helium gas and they filled all the cloud-shaped food with helium. Then they tied some tiny little strings onto the bottom of it, and Connor walked out into the restaurant, holding all the amazing food, like balloons. As he walked around to the table, he went to the different people.

Connor:

Here you go, one balloon for you, one balloon for you, and this one is for you, Your Highness.

Sam:

He handed a balloon to the king. The king looked up at the balloon.

King:

Firstly, Connor, I need to tell you something very important.

Connor:

Um, what is that, Your Highness?

King:

I don't really think you're a terrible chef. I just wanted to be able to jump the line to get in here because this restaurant is so prestigious. Well done, this looks incredible!

Connor:

Oh, thank you,

Sam:

said Connor.

Connor:

I-I'm glad you like the look of it, but just wait till you taste it,

Sam:

he said.

King:

How do I eat it?

Sam:

said the king.

Connor:

Um, you just take a bite,

Sam:

said Connor. The king pulled his balloon down and he took a bite. As he did, the flavours that filled his mouth were incredible, and the helium that filled his mouth was also quite funny as well. Because as the king turned back to Connor,

King (in a high-pitched voice):

This is delicious!

Sam:

said the king. Connor tried not to giggle, but the people around the table began to giggle very, very loud. It was much more than a giggle, it turned into quite the laugh.

King (in a high-pitched voice):

What are you guys all laughing at?

Sam:

said the king. Then he realised the sound of his own voice. He began to laugh too.

King (in a high-pitched voice):

Hehehehehee hoheehee hoo hoo hoo oho hoo!

Sam:

The other people at the table bit into their balloons as well, and the room was filled with high-pitched laughter and joy as they tasted the food and decided that it was so delicious, the most delicious thing they had ever eaten. They laughed and clapped as Connor took a bow.

Waiter:

Well done, Connor. You have made the most delicious, most amazing food that anybody has ever seen. Congratulations, you must now work here forever.

Connor:

Um, no,

Sam:

said Connor.

Connor:

I think I've had enough of this game.

Waiter:

This game?

Sam:

said the waiter.

Panda Pete:

And, cut!

Sam:

said Panda Pete, as he clacked the board closed one more time.

Connor:

That was amazing!

Sam:

said Connor.

Panda Pete:

I just wish that I got to taste that balloon. That looked like it was so yummy and so funny.

Connor:

Well, maybe we can play that game another time,

Sam:

said Connor.

Panda Pete:

Yeah, but I better get going. Hey, thanks for playing with me,

Sam:

said Panda Pete.

Panda Pete:

I'll see you soon!

Sam:

With that, he backflipped straight out the window and ran off down the street. Just then, Connor's mum came in.

Connor's mum:

Um, Connor, what was all that high-pitched giggling coming from your room?

Connor:

Well,

Sam:

said Connor,

Connor:

I don't think you'd believe me, even if I told you.

Sam:

And that is the end of the story.
