Speaker 1:

One day two little kids named Harriet and Isaac were getting ready to go to the park. Now they had put on their clothes and they had found their shoes and they were popping them on and as they were tying their laces, they were getting very excited. I can't wait to go to the park, said Harriet. Me either, said Isaac. It's going to be so much fun. Alright, I think we're ready, let's go.

Speaker 1:

So they went to the front door and they opened it, but what they saw on the other side was quite the surprise. They looked and instead of seeing what would normally be out the front of their house, there was some kind of giant hedge in front of them with an opening. Um, what's going on? Said Harriet. I don't know, said Isaac. It seems very strange. As they were standing and looking, all of a sudden a purple, fuzzy creature came running out the middle of the hedge. Hello, he said it is me, the Pimpin. Pimpin, said Isaac. What are you doing here? Well, said Pim-pim, as you can see, this is not the normal kind of thing that you would expect to be at the front of your house.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the very special maze, the hedge maze. A hedge maze, said Harriet. What's a hedge maze doing in front of our house. Well, I found some special seeds in the backyard of my house and I started planting them and then, before I knew it, I had built some kind of very strange maze out of all the seeds. But it turns out that they were maybe some kind of magic seeds that grow very quickly and they have grown into this giant hedge maze, which means that we can have some fun running around the hedge. But I also think that I may have left some other things in there that I cannot remember. What do you mean? Things that you can't remember? Said Harriet. Well, I can't remember, so I don't know. Said Pimpin, oh dear. Said Isaac. Well, I guess we have to get through the hedge maze to be able to get out of our house. Hooray, said Pimpin, let's go. He said running off straight down the side path from the hedge maze. As he ran down, the kids turned to follow. And Uh-oh, said Pimpin, dead end. Okay, try the other way. He said as he turned around and ran back past them. He ran down a different side. Where did he go? Said Harriet, I don't know, we better follow him. Said Isaac, as they went to follow. All of a sudden he was running back towards them. Sorry, dead end again. Okay, let's go this way, said Pimpim as he ran down the third path. The kids laughed and they started to follow along. All right, they said we can do this. If we work together, we will be able to work our way through the hedge maze.

Speaker 1:

So Harriet, isaac and Pimpim started walking down the different paths, trying to work out which direction to go. As they were walking along, pimpin was very, very excited. He was going from side to side to side trying to find the way out. Is it this way? Is it this way? Okay, is it this way? Pimpin, you've already been down that way and you know it's dead end, dead end, dead end, dead end. He said it's fun to say that. Okay, dead end, dead end, dead end. Okay, it is me, the Pim Pim. Okay, we need to get out of the hedge maze, said Pim Pim. We know, said Harriet and Isaac. How are we going to do it? Well, okay, I think if we keep walking in this direction, pim Pim, that's the dead end you just came from. You said that again Dead end, dead end, dead end, pim Pim, said Isaac. Oh, yeah, sorry, okay, maybe we need to. I don't really know.

Speaker 1:

As they were starting to try and work out what to do to get themselves out of the maze, they started to hear a noise. Um, what was that? Said Pimpin. I don't know, said Harriet. It sounded very strange. Yeah, said Isaac, it seemed to be coming from behind us. As they turned around, it seemed like part of the hedge had moved slightly. What's that sticky outy bit in the middle of the hedge? Um, I don't know, said Pimpin, let's go see.

Speaker 1:

They went back to the sticky outy bit in the hedge maze. Pimpin walked over and he poked it. Did that just make a noise? Said Harriet. I think it did, said Isaac, I'm gonna poke it again. Pimpin poked it again. What is that? Said Isaac. Isaac went over to have a closer look. Maybe I should poke it too. Don't poke me. Did it just talk? Said Harriet. Of course I talked. Said whatever it was that was in front of them. Um, excuse me, said Isaac, who are you? The piece of sticky-outy hedge turned around and it had a face. And it turns out it had arms and legs as well.

Speaker 1:

Well, my name is Hedgie. I was trying to hide up against this bit of the hedge, but you have discovered me. Oh, hello, hedgie, said Pimpin. Um, maybe you need to tell us how to get out of here. I don't know how to get out of here. I only just grew. You only just grew, what do you mean? Well, I'm made out of hedge, and when you planted those seeds, I'm guessing that I grew out of one of those special seeds. Oh, yes, that must have been the bag with the smiley face on it. Um, Pimpin, how many of the smiley face seeds did you plant? Um, I don't remember, said Pimpin, but at least three.

Speaker 1:

Well, said Hedgie, maybe we should try and find my friends. Um, how do you know that they're your friends? Um, I don't know. We came out of the same packet, said Hedgie. Well, said Harriet, let's try and work out how to get through this maze. Okay, said Hedgie, hang on, I'll try something. Hedgie put his plant hand into the other part of the hedge and he started to touch the different leaves. Oh, I think he is talking to the leaves using his leaf hands. Is that what you are doing? No, said Hedgie, I was just seeing if this part was alive too. I was trying to tickle it. Oh dear, said Isaac. Come on, let's start walking. Hopefully we can find our way out.

Speaker 1:

So Harriet, isaac, hedgie and Pimpin all started walking in the new direction. As they walked along, they were trying to listen for other noises. We heard the noise first, so maybe if we listen carefully, said Harriet, we might hear more of the hedge people that have been growing out of the hedge. Oh, very good idea. Or we could do this, said Pimpin, as he dove into the side of the hedge.

Speaker 1:

It's prickly in here, said Pimpin. Can somebody help me get out? I can help you, said a voice. Who said that? I think it's another hedgy. My name's not hedgy, said the voice. My name is Hedge-o, hedge-o. Okay, excuse me, hedge-o, can you push me out of the maze? Okay, yes, okay, said Hedge-E, I'll help too. Are you ready? Yes, I'm ready. One, two, three push. And with a giant shove.

Speaker 1:

The two hedge people worked together and said Pim-Pim, as he went flying out of that section of hedge, over one other section of hedge and landed in a different area. Hello, said Pimpin, I think I'm in the wrong position now. Uh-oh, said Harriet, we've got to try and find him. I think it's this way, said Pimpin, as he started running off in a different direction. Oh dear, said Isaac, we better go try and find him quick.

Speaker 1:

So the two hedge people and Isaac and Harriet started walking through the maze trying to work out how to get to where Pimpin was. The trouble was, pimpin was also on his own exciting adventure because he had found a new excitement for running down every single path in the hedge maze. I'm going this way and then this way, and then this way, and you Uh-oh, said the kids, let's be quick. So they started to run. Hedge-o, do you know how to get out of here? Oh, yes, I do. If you go this way and then that way and then this way, um, where, follow me? Said Hedge-o.

Speaker 1:

Hedge-o started running and hedgy and harriet and isaac all started running behind him. As they ran and they ran and they ran, they turned down all the different paths, they weaved through all the different alleyways until they came out the other side of the hedge maze. We've done it, said harriet. Yay, said isaac. Hooray said, said Hedge-o. Hooray, said Hedgie. But what about Pim-Pim? Said Harriet. Oh, dear, said Isaac. We're going to have to go back in and find him. But how are we going to make sure that we can get back out? Maybe I can help, said another voice. Who said that? Said Isaac.

Speaker 1:

They looked around and they could see at the edge of the hedge maze was wow, he's a tall hedge person. Hello, who are you? Said Harriet. My name is Bushy and I am the biggest hedge person in the whole entire hedge. I think I've only been alive for about 25 minutes, but I haven't seen any other big hedge people like me. As he started to stand up taller and taller, they realised that he was taller than the entire hedge maze itself. Hang on, I'll have a look. Actually, I can't see that good, can you kids climb up to have a look? Um, okay, said Harriet. Yeah, said Isaac, that could be fun. So Isaac and Harriet started to climb up.

Speaker 1:

Bushy, oh, that tickles. Oh, he said as the kids climbed all the way up to his shoulders. As they sat on top of his shoulders, they could see the entire hedge maze and they could see Pimpin in the middle. I'm going this way, I'm going this way and I go this way. And oh, maybe I go this way.

Speaker 1:

As he was running around, they realised that he was completely lost. Pimpin, yelled Harriet, I found another dead end, said Pimpin. That's not what you're meant to be doing. You're meant to be trying to get out, said Isaac. Um, but I like to say dead end. Look, I found another dead end.

Speaker 1:

Said Pimpin, I think we're going to have to go in and get him. Actually, I've got an idea. Hey, hedgie and Hedgeho, yes, yes, can you guys go in? If we sit up here, we can tell you which direction to go to find Pimpin, and then maybe the two of you can grab a hold of him and bring him back out. Okay, okay, yeah, I'll help tell you where to go to.

Speaker 1:

Said Bushy, go upside down. Um, that's not quite how it works. Said Harriet, you've got to tell them directions. Do you know your lefts and rights? Um, that's not quite how it works. Said Harriet, you gotta tell them directions. Do you know your lefts and rights? Um, um, not really. Said Hedgie, me either, said Hedge-O. Um, well, I'll tell you that way or that way. Said Harriet, pointing with her hands. You'll be able to see us. Okay, said Hedge-E, let's go.

Speaker 1:

So Hedge-E and Hedge-O started running into the maze and Harriet and Isaac started giving them directions. Go that way, that's your left Okay. Go that way, that's your right Okay. Go that way, that's your right Okay. And as they went in further and further and further, they eventually caught up to Pimpin Da-dand, da-dand, da-dand, da-dand, da-dand, da-dand, da-dand, da-dand, da-dand, da-dand. He was singing Pimpin, it's time for you to come with us, please. Um, okay, said Pimpin. But first he ran off in a different direction. Catch him, yelled Isaac.

Speaker 1:

Hedgy and Hedge-O started running after Pimpin. Hang on, let's give him a big hedge cuddle. Yeah, let's do it. Can I come give him a cuddle too? Said Bushy. No, said the kids, you need to stay here so that we can see. Oh, okay, I'll give him a cuddle when he's out, said Bushy. No, said the kids, you need to stay here so that we can see. Oh, okay, I'll give him a cuddle when he's out, said Bushy.

Speaker 1:

And with that, hedgie and Hedge-O set up at either ends of the two dead ends that Bim-Bim was running between, and they started to walk closer together. Uh-oh, said Bim-Bim, um, why are you coming towards me? What are you doing? We're coming, yeah, we're coming. And they got closer and closer. No, what are you doing? Hey, stop that. No, hedge cuddle, they said. And they both grabbed a hold of Pimpin and gave him a big squeezy cuddle. No, actually, this is kind of comfy. I like this. Hey, I like the hedge cuddle. I want to join in Pimpin started trying to cuddle them both back and as he did oh, that tickles Quick, let's get out of here.

Speaker 1:

Which way, ozark, tell us Harriet. They quickly gave them the directions to be able to get out of the maze Left, right, left hey, I know my lefts and rights now. Well done, called out Isaac. Yes, said Harriet. Good job, now turn left. Okay, that's your right. Oops, I forgot that way. Well done, keep going.

Speaker 1:

They worked and worked until they got out of the hedge maze. Hedgy and Hedgeho was still cuddling Pimpin as they walked out of the exit. My turn, said Bushy. As he leant down and, with his arms as wide as they could be, he cuddled all of them up in one big cuddle and squeezed. Oh yeah, they said, as they got squeezed by Bushy's big, bushy arms.

Speaker 1:

All right, said Harriet. We've made it through the hedge maze and it's been lots of fun, but it's time for us to go to the park. Yeah, said Isaac, park time. Do you guys want to come? Yippee, said the hedge people, and they all started following along with Isaac and Harriet as they walked to the park. As they were almost there, isaac and Harriet's mum met them at the edge of the park. Um, Isaac, harriet. Who are these people? Made out of bushes? Well said, isaac, I don't think you'd believe us, even if we told you. And that is the end of the story.
